Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s “Music on Main … Classically Inspired” October performance will feature classical guitarist and New York native Peter Fletcher at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at the historic Emerson House, 420 N. Main St., Rockford
This program will include pieces by Praetorius, Bach, Grieg and Paganini.
Born in Atlanta, Fletcher began taking guitar lessons with John Sutherland at 9 years of age. He continued his studies with Sutherland at the University of Georgia, and then later with Nicholas Goluses at the Eastman School of Music, where he was twice recipient of the Eastman Graduate Award.
Fletcher gives more than 100 concerts a year under the auspices of Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, and has released two recordings on the Centaur Records label and four recordings on the Towerhill Recordings label.
His next project with Centaur Records involves an all-Grieg album in which he himself is writing the guitar transcriptions. Scheduled release date is fall 2013. Fletcher’s interests outside of music include reading and cross-country running.

“Music on Main … Classically Inspired” is the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s series of brief and intimate after-work concerts that are classically inspired and held at the historic Emerson House in the heart of Rockford’s cultural corridor. Experience beautiful music, mingle with the artists, enjoy complimentary wine and light refreshments, and relax with friends.
“Music on Main” performances take place the second Thursday of the month, September to November and February to May. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Purchase tickets online, by phone or at the door. Doors open at 5 p.m., and seating at the Emerson House is limited to the first 100 guests.
