Dear Friends,
On Thursday October 18th, Tom went into the hospital with pain.  The blood test showed critically low platelet count and thus he was admitted for a transfusion.  Upon further testing, he has been diagnosed with Birkitt’s Lymphoma which is an extremely aggressive form.  This is a very rare cancer that normally effects people outside the U.S.  In addition, this form typically presents itself in the jaw and lymph nodes.  In Tom’s case, it is in his bone marrow and brain.

Chemotherapy began on Friday October 25, 2013.  The next few days will tell if his body is responsive to this treatment.  Because the chemo will make his bone marrow empty and he will have a severely compromised immune system to which a simple infection could be fatal, we kindly request that there are no visitors.  He also cannot have flowers, food, or plants in the room.  Cards and letters would be greatly appreciated and can be mailed to 6422 Muirfield Lane, Rockford Illinois 61114.

We are being optimistic that he will fight this in spite of the prognosis.  Please continue to pray for a favorable outcome and we will keep you posted.

Thank you for all of your support,
