Tube Talk: ‘Impractical Jokers’ live at Coronado Nov. 16
By Paula Hendrickson
Good news for those of you who can’t get enough of TruTV’s popular hidden camera show Impractical Jokers. Not only do season one DVDs go on sale Nov. 26, but Q, Sal, Joe and Murr are performing live at the Coronado Theatre this Saturday, Nov. 16.
Collectively known as the Tenderloins since 2000, these guys have been friends for nearly 20 years from back when they were in high school. Performing live is not new to them.
“We performed live together for almost a decade before we created and sold Impractical Jokers,” says James “Murr” Murray. “That’s a lot of shows!”
Off stage, Murr says he and the guys are pretty much like they come across on TV and on stage. Because they know each other so well, they know their various breaking points and just how far they can push one another.
“There are lots of lines we won’t cross, that’s what is so fun to watch! I, for one, will never disrespect women or elders, and the guys use that to their advantage,” Murr says. He says that familiarity also plays into why he and Sal often wind up the brunt of jokes: “Sal because he is so easy to screw with, and me because … well, I don’t know why!”
Because the guys love performing live, they film Impractical Jokers during the week and hit the road on weekends.
About Saturday’s show — which begins at 7:30 p.m.; tickets start at $35 — Murr says: “Everything you love about the TV show, you’ll love even more about the live show. All four of us are on stage doing a combination of stand-up, telling crazy stories from the road and show, showing hidden-camera videos that are too hot for TV, cutting-room floor footage and more. And they poke fun at me a lot. Probably because they’re jealous!”
Touring also gives the guys a chance to see what their comedy means to fans.
“Actually getting to meet fans, hearing them chant ‘Let’s Get Sexy’ before a show, and shout out their favorite quotes from the TV show is so cool,” Murr says.
“And traveling across America with your four best friends is awesome, too.”
Don’t despair, if you can’t make the live show this weekend, you can catch the Tenderloins when they play Milwaukee in February. For details, check out their entire list of tour dates at www.thetenderloins.com.
Impractical Jokers airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. Central on TruTV.
