After a year off of what has become a Thanksgiving tradition downtown, Rockford natives, Miles Nielsen and Ernie Hendrickson will make a stop during their national touring schedules for a show Friday, Nov. 29, at Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St.

Nielsen’s Beatles-eque folk has been called a unique brand of pop rock cosmic Americana, spawning two full-length albums and various other projects. With his band, The Rusted Hearts, Nielsen has toured the country and back, sharing bills with an array of acts including Soul Asylum, the Chicago Farmer, Daniel and the Lion and The Steepwater Band.

Nielsen, along with band mate, Daniel McMahon, was on the receiving end of an Academy Award in 2012, for co-writing the score for the 2011′s Best Documentary Feature, Undefeated. Nielsen and McMahon also split time between the road and their rural Rockford studio, The Midwest Sound. There, they work on their own material and produce and engineer music for a slew of other artists.

Since Nielsen and company last played a Thanksgiving show in Rockford, songs from Miles and Presents the Rusted Hearts have remained favorites among fans from all over the United States.

Hendrickson’s career also began in Rockford when he was a young member of the psychedelic folk outfit, the Seed Band. From there, Hendrickson has evolved into a keen songwriter with the folk, country–even bluegrass–chops to boot.  His latest, One for the Dreamers was produced by former Neil Young drummer Chad Cromwell. The 10-song album includes contributions from Mickey Raphael (Harmonica, Willie Nelson), Reese Wynans (Keyboards, Stevie Ray Vaughan) and Pete Wasner (Keyboards, Vince Gill).

Doors open at 7 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m. Cost is $15. Reserve tickets are available at Rustedtrunk.com and at the door. All seats are general admission.
