Rockford Park District offering specials while schools are closed

To help keep area students stay busy while schools are closed, the Rockford Park District, along with community partners, is offering special rates on a variety of activities Tuesday, Jan 7, as part of the School’s Out program.

Following is a list of activities offered through the park district and participating partners as part of the program.

Tropical Tuesday–Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, 1354 N. Second St., Rockford, 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., $3 admission.

Public Skate–Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Rd., Loves Park, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Adults, $5 ($5.50 non-resident), youth, $4 ($4.50 Non-Resident). Skate rental, $2.

Sapora Playworld (Inside Carlson Ice Arena)–Half-price admission. Fees range from $.75 to $2.50, based on age and residency. Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Open soccer and volleyball for high school students–Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission, $5 ($6 non-resident).

Indoor Driving Range–Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park, $5 per bucket (resident), $6 per bucket(non-resident).

School’s Out Fun Day–Harlem Community Center, 900 Roosevelt Rd., Machesney Park, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per child. Information: Dawn Busby, (815) 633-5817.

Washington Park Community Center–3617 Delaware St., Rockford, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch, afternoon snacks and drinks are provided. Admission is free for current Washington Park Community Center and Lewis Lemon Community Center members, $30 for non-members. This one-time membership fee provides access to Washington Park Community Center for the rest of the school year.

Discovery Center–711 N. Main St., Rockford, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission $8, members and children 1 and younger, free.

Burpee Museum–737 N. Main St., Rockford, Donation Day, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., admission is free.

Rockford Art Museum– 711 N. Main St, Rockford, Donation Day, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., admission is free.

Northwest Community Center–1325 N. Johnston Ave., Rockford, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $5. Students enrolled in before- and after-school programs are free.

Boys & Girls Club of Rockford, Carlson Unit–7406 Elm Avenue, Machesney Park. Open 3 to 5 p.m.

Boys & Girls Club of Rockford, Blackhawk Unit–330 15th Avenue, Rockford. Hours: 3 to 5 p.m.
