DEKALB, Ill. — At 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, the Ellwood House Visitor Center in DeKalb, Ill., will host performance group Wooden Box Theater as they present an event featuring live theatrical performance, poetry, local fashion modeling, and live music with their fourth annual Beatles Nite.
The event will act as a first of a series of three new spring-themed theaterical events set at the Ellwood House by Wooden Box Theater beginning in February and concluding in June.
Beatles Nite was co-written by Wooden Box Theater’s Daniel Sherrill, The Nordic Artisan Company’s Emily Nelson, and Ben Roettger of the band Sheepdog, who will also be performing.
The event will be hosted, on stage, by both Emily Nelson and Joey Gage of the Nordic Artisan Company. Nelson and Gage create and sell their own brand of handmade gifts and jewelry. Guest stars appearing and modeling throughout the show will include Roettger, Brittany Pivonka, Schuyler Gomer, Brian Mikula, Sarah Henneke, Envi Killin’Em, Anqeliina Boo, Jade Cook, Jennifer Angell, Heidi Crush and Vickie Shook.
“Beatles Nite 4” will display up-and-coming music artists in the DeKalb area, with featured brand-new interpretations of some of the band’s music performed and arranged by local musicians as well as new themed fashions presented by an array of local models.
Wooden Box Theater’s annual Beatles-themed events began at the House Café in spring 2011 and has, for each year, presented a different aspect and part of their career to keep each event fresh and current sounding.
Event writer Dan Sherrill explains,
“There’s so many Beatles tribute bands and events out there, our events have always set out to be the alternative to just a ‘tribute night,’ we seem to channel in all of our creativity and steer clear of the atypical tribute-style event,” said event writer Dan Sherrill.
The Beatles’ songs performed during the events, usually handpicked by Sherrill, have ranged from their early 1960s material, all the way to recent releases by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as music by Wings.
The music lineup for the event showcases many styles, including hip hop, rhythm and blues, acoustic and hard rock. Live performances will be included by headliners Sheepdog and Daerielle Amber, along with Desmond Green, Mitch Munns, NeverclearX, Doug Feltz, Max Dombrowski, Mark, Gladys Sanchez, and Bill Leighly.
Wooden Box Theater’s long-term collaborator Candi Jackman of “Prairie State Belly Dance:” will also display self-written belly dance performances set to the Beatles’ music.
Joining the cast will also be Haley Marie, of HMarie Photography, who will be photographing the event and displaying her new photography business to audience members. Wooden Box Theater collaborator Gladys Sanchez will bring her self-written poetry to share with the audience as well.
