National Skating Month event at Carlson Ice Arena Sunday, Feb. 16

In honor of National Skating Month, the Rockford Park District, along with Rockford Skating Club, is offering a special event for kids and adults to learn the fundamentals of ice skating.
National Skating Month, now in its 13th year, allows U.S. Figure Skating member clubs and Basic Skills programs to reach out to new members in the community by offering the fundamentals of ice skating from professionally trained instructors.
The Rockford Park District is celebrating National Skating Month Sunday, Feb. 16, at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Road, Loves Park, Ill., from 2 to 4 p.m. Free skating lessons, skating demonstrations and lots of giveaways will be included. Admission is $5 for adults ($5.50 non-resident), and $4 for youth ($4.50 non-resident); skate rental is available for $2.

Learn to Skate Lessons — The Rockford Park District’s Learn to Skate program uses the nationally recognized U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. Classes meet once a week, and skates are provided for all levels. Classes range from five- to six- week sessions, and are available throughout the year for youth and adults ages 3 and older. Register in person at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Road, or at the Webbs Norman Center, 401 S. Frosty Fridays — $5 — Join 97 WZOK for skating and lots of fun every Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. through March 21. The admission fee of $5 includes ice time and skate rental. Kids age 2 and younger are admitted free. Event is at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Road, Loves Park.
After School Skate — $3 — After School Skate is for boys and girls in grades pre-K through 12. The Park District’s Learn to Skate staff provide 15 minutes of instruction at each session. Sessions are scheduled Thursdays through May 29 from 3:30 to 4:50 p.m. at Riverview Ice House, 324 N. Madison St., Rockford. The fee for students and adults/chaperones is $3 per person, including skate rental; family and friends are also welcome.
