Online Staff Report
Several weeks ago, the Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit received information about a subject who was selling crack cocaine and heroin at various locations throughout Rockford.
An investigation was initiated and the suspect was identified as Stephone Rogers, 24, of Rockford. The investigation concluded on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 12., when narcotics detectives observed Rogers allegedly delivering packets of heroin near 12th Street and Broadway.
As investigators approached Rogers and his associate, identified as 22-year-old Lawrence R. Jackson, both took off running in opposite directions. After a foot chase, both were taken into custody without further incident.
Jackson was found to be in possession of 12 bags of cannabis that were packaged for sale, police said.
Both Rogers and Jackson were lodged in the Winnebago County Jail on the following charges:
Rogers has been charged with two counts of delivery of one to 15 grams of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a park, delivery of less than 1 gram of heroin and resisting an officer.
Jackson was booked for possession with intent to deliver 10 to 30 grams of cannabis and resisting.
Jackson was just released from prison Jan. 28 and is on parole for a previous drug offense.
