JANESVILLE, Wis. — Actors, artists, musicians, writers and anyone looking to experience a burst of creative energy can be a part of the 24-Hour Theatre/Art Festival at UW-Rock County starting at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, and ending with public performances in the Kirk Denmark Theatre on the campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave., Janesville Wis., starting at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22.
Under the direction of UW-Rock County Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre Arts Zac Curtis, participants will write, cast, stage, rehearse and perform short plays; or write lyrics, rehearse and perform a choir concert; or write a piece of music and then perform a band concert; or find out the theme for visual arts and be ready for an art show — all within a 24-hour period.
Auditions for actors are open to the public and will be between 8 and 9 p.m., Friday. The 1-minute acting audition may consist of a monologue, story, joke, demonstration of special skills or any combination of these with the goal of showing off talents to the writers before the plays are written. Audition time sign-up is available at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0E4EA4AC2EA57-24hour.
Playwrights, directors and technicians are also needed. Following the auditions, writers will work through the night to craft the plays. The cast will rehearse Saturday from 8 a.m. to just before the public performance at 8 p.m.
Up to 20 singers can sign up to participate at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0E4EA4AC2EA57-24hour1. Singers will arrive at the theater by 8 a.m. on Saturday to begin rehearsals and will perform at 8 p.m.
Instrumental musicians should e-mail email@example.com for more about participating.
Visual artists should e-mail Curtis at firstname.lastname@example.org for details. The artistic theme and constraints will be revealed at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, and art will be due by Saturday afternoon. Artwork will be for sale and displayed during a gala in the lobby before the show.
The art show and refreshments will begin at 7 p.m., and performances will begin at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Kirk Denmark Theatre. Tickets are $2 for students and $5 for the general public.
