The Young Adults Heroin Use Task Force will hold a public meeting Saturday, March 1, at Rock Valley College.
The task force was created last year by the Illinois General Assembly to address the growing problem of heroin use in high schools and communities throughout the state. Illinois Rep. John Cabello, R-Machesney Park, is one of 14 members appointed to the task force.
“Heroin abuse in our communities and schools continues to grow at an alarming rate,” Cabello said. “We are facing an epidemic that needs a solution to help combat the problem. This task force will use the testimony to construct a statewide report in hopes of creating a road map to curving abuse in our schools in communities.”
The event starts at 11 a.m., in Room 119 of the Woodward Technology Center, 3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford. Parking is available in Parking Lot 2.
Those wishing to provide testimony to the task force should contact Rep. Cabello’s district office at (815) 282-0083.
Information also regularly updated at johncabello.org under the Heroin Task Force tab.
“Winnebago County had 124 fatal drug overdoses last year,” Cabello added. “The number of drug-related deaths in Winnebago County continues to rise and the reason that number is growing is because of an increase in heroin use. We need to keep making this an issue if we’re going to solve the problem.”
