Police identify homicide victim

The man shot dead on Mulberry Street early Friday morning has been identified as 56-year-old Clifford Thomas.

Thomas was pronounced dead at around 6 a.m., at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Thomas was found around 4 a.m., lying in the street in the 2200 block of Mulberry Street.

No arrests have been made.

Police are searching for leads in the shooting death of a 56-year-old Rockford man found on Mulberry Street early Friday morning, Feb. 21.

At around 4 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Soper Avenue and Mulberry Street in reference to gunshots fired the area.

Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in the 2200 block of Mulberry Street. Rockford Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
