• 60 percent of budget comes from local support

WNIJ’s Spring Membership Campaign has been under way since Thursday, March 13, and there’s still time to donate before the campaign ends this week.
“The campaign started Thursday morning with ‘The Power Hour,’ where a full day of funding is raised in just one hour, thanks to matching gifts from current membership,” WNIJ’s Sue Stephens said.
The campaign ends at 9 a.m., Friday, March 21, at the end of the Morning Edition.
Local support accounts for 60 percent of Northern Public Radio’s budget. The federal government, through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, makes up 13 percent.
“On-air fund drives are the most efficient, least expensive way to reach our listeners to let them know the importance of their support in keeping this public radio station an independent voice in our region,” Stephens added.
Stephens said the station is still looking for pledge drive volunteers to help man phones at the Broadcast Center in DeKalb, Ill., until Friday.
For details and available shifts, contact Diane Drake at email@example.com, or call (815) 753-9000 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
All pledges help support WNIJ 89.5 FM and WNIU 90.5 FM.
