Online Staff Report
A lockdown at Rockford Auburn High School has been lifted Wednesday afternoon, April 16, District 205 officials confirmed.
While details are sketchy, the Rockford Police shift commander told The Rock River Times at approximately 11:50 a.m., that the situation at Auburn involved a soft lockdown and an arrest. However, the officer did not have details about whether an arrest was made inside or outside the building.
Subsequent calls to police for further comment were referred to Rockford Public School District 205 officials, who attempted to refer the inquiry back to the Rockford Police Department.
As of this report, The Rock River Times is waiting for details from school district officials to confirm that an arrest was made at the high school.
“This kind of stonewalling is a continuation of a sad, but true tradition that has gone on from administration to administration at Rockford Public School District 205,” The Rock River Times Editor & Publisher Frank Schier said. “When will this district and the school board set a policy for transparency and forthright communication regarding the public’s right to know about the safety of our children? This is something that should go before the school board at its next meeting.”
