UPDATE: The victim of Monday’s homicide has been identified as 18-year-old Douglas Johnson, of Rockford. Johnson died in surgery at Rockford Memorial Hospital at 2:30 p.m., after being shot on the city’s northwest side.
The suspect has been described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, 5-feet, 11-inches and 160 pounds. He was wearing an orange and yellow hooded sweatshirt. Police say he was last seen running from the area north on Darwood Drive.

Rockford Police officers are investigating a homicide that occurred Monday, April 21, on Darwood Drive, near North Rockton Avenue and Halsted Road.
Monday, April 21, shortly before 1 p.m., patrol officers and detectives from the Rockford Police Department responded to the 3200 block of Darwood Dr. in reference to a shooting.
When they arrived, they located an 18-year-old victim who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Rockford Fire Department rescue personnel transported the teen to a local hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
Detectives are conducting a followup investigation into the incident. No suspects have been named.
