Applications for Arts Council’s ArtsPlace 2014 due by April 30

The Rockford Area Arts Council is taking applications for ArtsPlace 2014, the summer arts apprenticeship program for youth ages 14-18. Applications are due Wednesday, April 30.

ArtsPlace will run 12:30-4:30 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays, June 23-Aug. 11, at various sites in downtown Rockford.

ArtsPlace is a free program, supported by grants and donations. Bus transportation is provided, if needed.

This year, ArtsPlace will offer art disciplines in visual arts, dance, spoken-word poetry, theater and vocal music. Youth work on teams directed by a professional artist and create original work, which is performed and exhibited at the conclusion of the program. Apprentices share in the proceeds from ticket and art sales. Through the process of creating art, apprentices learn valuable work skills such as productivity, reliability, perseverance, respect and cooperation.

ArtsPlace receives support from the Rockford Park District, the Rockford Public Schools, the United Way, Winnebago County, BMO Harris Bank, William Miller Charitable Trust, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the generosity of Rockford-area residents.
