OSF Heritage Run marks 30th year in downtown Rockford April 27

A spring tradition returns when the 30th annual OSF Heritage Run takes off from downtown Rockford Sunday afternoon, April 27.

The Heritage Run will begin at 1 p.m. near State and Wyman and will include events for the entire family.

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is the major sponsor of the race, which benefits the YMCA’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

The Heritage Run includes a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) race, a 2-mile run and walk, and a kids’ half-mile fun run.

The 10k and 2-mile races, which are part of the Rockford Road Runners’ Race Circuit, begin at 1 p.m. Scoring will be by chip timing.

Family activities will include games and other activities for kids. Cholesterol and blood pressure screenings will be available for adults during registration at Stewart Square.

Registration fee for the 10k and 2-mile races is $30 before the event and $35 the day of the race. Youth fees for those 17 and younger for the 10k and 2-mile races are $10. A $7 entry fee is charged for youngsters younger than 12 participating in the kids’ fun run.

Runners may register by mail to Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA, 200 Y Blvd., Rockford, IL 61107, or online at www.rockriverymca.org. Registration forms are available at the Rockford YMCA, Runner’s Image and the OSF Center for Health.

All run and walk participants receive a specially-designed technical shirt as well as refreshments and awards. Participants in the kids’ fun run receive a short-sleeve T-shirt and finisher’s ribbon.

Registration and packet pick-up will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, April 25, in the downtown YMCA lobby, and from 10:30 a.m. until noon the day of the race at Stewart Square, 308 W. State St. No registrations will be taken after noon.

Cash awards will be given to the top three overall male and female winners in the 10-kilometer race as well as the top female and male master’s division 10k winners.

Fifteen age divisions are eligible for the races beginning with ages 6 to 11 and going to 75 and older. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group.
