A Rockford woman was arrested for DUI after crashing her car into a tree while fleeing from another vehicle during a shooting incident Tuesday morning on Rockford’s northwest side.

According to police, Elizabeth White, 24, crashed her Suzuki Grand Vitaria near North Main Street and Harlem Boulevard at around 4:20 a.m.

White, along with a female and male passenger, told police they were stopped in the 300 block of Napolean Street when occupants of an approaching vehicle opened fire. That’s when White accelerated, crashing a block away, near 1020 N. Main St. All three occupants of the Suzuki were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. White was later cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. An initial court appearance and bond are pending.

Spent shell casings were found near the 300 block of Napolean Street. No suspects have been named.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Rockford Police shift commander at (815) 987-5824 or Crime Stoppers at (815) 963-7867.
