Gas prices continue to rise in Illinois and Indiana, AAA reports

Online Staff Report

AURORA, Ill. — Gas prices continue to rise as Illinois and Indiana drivers are paying on average $3.89 and $3.73, respectively, for a gallon of regular unleaded.

Illinois prices reflect a rise of nearly 15 cents from just a month ago, while the 2-cent month-over-month disparity in Indiana is much smaller. Drivers in every state except Colorado are paying higher gas prices than a month ago.

In April in Illinois, gas prices averaged $3.87, which was up 13 cents from March 2014 and up 7 cents from a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $3.82 in April, which was up 18 cents from March and up 7 cents from April 2013.

Drivers can’t seem to catch a break with gas prices rising sharply in Illinois and Indiana due to significant refinery maintenance and the regulated switchover to the summer blend,” said Beth Mosher, AAA spokesman. “Spring is generally the worst time of the year to fill up the car, and high gas prices make it especially hard on people hoping to take advantage of the warmer weather.”
