Discovery Center Museum, along with help from the Rockford Amateur Astronomers, is planning to celebrate Astronomy Day from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 10. Astronomy Day is an annual event intended to provide a means of interaction between the general public and various astronomy enthusiasts, groups and professionals.
Discovery Center activities on Astronomy Day will include making a star map, investigating telescopes, taking a close-up look at the sun with the Rockford Amateur Astronomy Club, creating glittery star crafts and free planetarium shows.
Discovery Center is inside Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., and can be reached at (815) 963-6769. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., daily. Admission is $8 adults, $8 children (ages 2-17), and free to museum members and children age 1 and younger.
