Thursday, May 1, Lifescape Community Services created what is destined to be a long-running event for the Rockford-area community, Rockford’s Best Dish.

Rockford’s Best Dish brought together 12 of the area’s most interesting and creative restaurants and chefs to the Tebala Shrine Temple in an effort to find the best appetizer, entrée and dessert. Amici Italian Grill in Roscoe, Ill., was voted by those attending to have the best appetizer, its Italian Scampi, and best dessert, Flourless Chocolate Cake. Greenfire of Rockford had its Chicken Crepe voted best entrée. But overall, the judges — Georgette Braun of the Rockford Register Star, Riley O’Neil of 1440 WROK and Hannah Welker of WREX TV — determined that Amici’s Italian Scampi was, indeed, Rockford’s “Best Dish.”

While Rockford’s Best Dish was a fun community event, it was also designed to celebrate the 75 years of Lifescape’s programming and to raise funds for the agency’s endowment to ensure its programs continue to serve the growing senior population for many years to come.

Along with Amici Italian Grill and Greenfire, other restaurants and chefs who participated included Vito’s Ristorante, Cliffbreakers, Bickford House Independent and Assisted Living, E-Z Dinners, Crimson Pointe Assisted Living, Thunder Bay Grill, Simply Delicious Cupcakes, Backyard Grill & Bar, Lucha Cantina and Kate’s Pie Shop.
