Rockford University Vocal Collective to perform in Sounds from the Sanctuary Concert
Online Staff Report
First Lutheran Church, 225 S. Third St., Rockford, offers the fourth concert in its eclectic Sounds from the Sanctuary 2013-14 series when it presents Rockford University’s Vocal Collective in concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 11, at the church.
The Rockford University Vocal Collective is the community’s premiere a cappella ensemble, a select group of students who perform a variety of choral literature from Renaissance polyphony and sacred music to jazz and popular arrangements. The members serve as enthusiastic ambassadors for their school, performing at campus functions and representing Rockford University throughout the area and across the nation.
First Lutheran is especially pleased to host the Rockford University Vocal Collective during the church’s 160th anniversary year, recognizing the physical link between these two enduring institutions of faith and education that were founded within just a few years of, and mere blocks from, one another.
The Sounds from the Sanctuary concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received.
First Lutheran, corner of Third and Oak streets, is in the heart of Rockford’s historic Haight Village. A large parking lot sits adjacent to the church. Street parking and nearby public lots are also available. First Lutheran is handicap accessible.
