Banks partner with Habitat for Humanity, home framing May 10
Online Staff Report
Eight local banks have partnered with Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity (RAHFH) volunteers and future home buyers for the first-ever Bankers Build.
Alpine Bank, Associated Bank, Bank of America, Blackhawk Bank, Northwest Bank, Riverside Community Bank, Rockford Bank and Trust, and U.S. Bank are supporting the construction of a home at 2335 18th Ave. in Rockford, both financially and with volunteers.
The home will be framed this Saturday, May 10, beginning at 8:30 a.m. by both bank and scheduled community volunteers, along with the future home buyer and her friends and family.
The volunteers will be framing the homes using wall panels that were built at the Dixon Correctional Center through the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois Rebuilding Lives program. The Rebuilding Lives program allows motivated inmates to develop marketable skills to help them find work upon their release.
RAHFH has completed and sold 104 homes in Rockford since 1988. Homes are sold at-cost to qualified families while offering a zero-interest loan. Eighty-five percent of homes are occupied by the original home buyers. Seven families have successfully paid off their mortgages.
