Local 4-H Robotics club excels at state competition

Nearly 300 young robotics enthusiasts met Saturday, May 3, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus to test their team’s robot in the Illinois 4-H BoxBot Robotics Competition. Local youth enrolled in the 4-H program in Winnebago County were represented by a team that competed against other 4-H robotics teams from across the state.

The local 4-H team, Winnebago Mindstorm Patrol, included members Miranda Dooley, Kielyn Jackson-Ramos, Jared Lee, Sebastian Martin, Ben Meyers, Charles Meyers, Max Ramos and Nikolai Yun. Teams were judged on program organization, efficiency, team member knowledge, prototyping, and robot structure and design.

Curt Meyers, team coach, was impressed with how well his team worked together. “Our team was the only one that used multiple robots and Bluetooth technology to complete the task,” he said. “We placed fifth among the 45 teams represented, and we also received an award for Best Program.”
