May 31 seminar: Seven self-defense moves every female should know
Online Staff Report
Although today is the era of empowered women, they remain to be largely victims of violence. In fact, statistics from the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) show that one in every six American women has been a victim of attempted or completed rape. It is no longer enough that women just be aware of the likelihood of a similar fate happening to them. Hence, the conception of women’s self-defense.
Matt Numrich, a martial arts instructor of Rockford’s Elite Defense Systems, believes women should be taught the basics of protecting themselves and their loved ones.
“Unfortunately, they are the real targets,” explains Numrich. “They are the ones robbers and rapists look for every day.” But, he states that teaching these women is a tough task. They are busy moms, workers and community supporters. The last thing they have time for is an in-depth self-defense course to add to their plates.
Numrich will be conducting a two-hour seminar from 1 to 3 p.m., May 31. Dubbed as the “Lose Weight, Gain Confidence and Feel Safe with Martial Arts and Self-Defense,” it aims to teach women the following:
• Seven easy self-defense tools that can be used to escape bigger and stronger opponents;
• What to do if someone grabs you from behind, tackles you down on the ground, or assaults you with a weapon;
• How to protect yourself and your loved ones while finding out another great and fun way to break a sweat; and
• How to build an easy and quick workout program to get in shape, while you learn to defend yourself.
This seminar is offered to women of all ages with no experience required. Cost is $19.
