Dance Company welcomes new artistic director

Rockford Dance Company’s Board of Directors has announced Wayland Anderson as its new artistic director.

Anderson comes to Rockford from Columbia, S.C., where he was employed as principal dancer for Columbia City Ballet.

In addition to his work at Columbia City Ballet, he also has performed with Metropolitan Ballet Theater, Ballet Theatre of Maryland, and University of South Carolina’s Annual Stars of New York Gala performance.

Anderson co-founded DANCEWORDZ, a creative dance company that combines ballet and poetry with classical and contemporary music. And he served as the company’s ballet master, choreographing 10 original theatrical ballets.

Anderson received his undergraduate degree in dance from West Texas A & M University and his master of fine arts from University of Maryland.

Anderson brings with him a passion for education and dance, and will continue the legacy of Rockford Dance Company through performance, education and outreach. He will begin his tenure as artistic director of Rockford Dance Company July 15, making Rockford his new home.

Rockford Dance Company, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is a dance school teaching classical ballet as well as other genres of dance to children and adults in the greater Rockford area.
