Free Music in the Park concerts begin June 10 at Sinnissippi

Enjoy summer evenings at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, 1401 N. Second St., for Rockford Park District’s free Music in the Park concerts, held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., June 10-Aug. 14 (except June 19).

These concerts are part of the Park District’s Free Sounds of Summer Entertainment Series featuring local and regional talents who present shows encompassing a variety of styles and genres, and are some of the many free activities offered by the Rockford Park District.

This year’s Music in the Park season opens Tuesday, June 10, with a concert by Rockford’s musical ambassadors and 2008 World Champions, the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, performing Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake,” other music, and selections from past years (rain date: Wednesday, June 11).

In addition to Music in the Park, the Park District’s free Sounds of Summer Entertainment Series offers a variety of free performances throughout the summer, including the following:

• Tunes on the Terrace at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, featuring a variety of musical performers of jazz, folk, country and more, Wednesdays, June 4-Aug. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.

• Live at Levings Talent Showcases & Free Concerts, which feature jazz, soul, R&B, and gospel music concerts as well as an all-ages talent contest that welcomes musicians, singers, rappers, dancers, spoken-word/poetry performers, comedians, and other performance talents to participate, Sundays, June 8, 15 and 22; July 6 and 20; and Aug. 10 (talent show finals) from 3 to 7 p.m. at Levings Park. Talent shows will be 3-5 p.m., followed by concerts from 5 until 7 p.m.

• Imagination Station, presenting music, magic, comedy and drama for young audiences, Wednesdays, June 11-Aug. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell.

• Domingo en el Parque (Sunday in the Park) offering concerts featuring banda, cumbias, salsa, merengue, norteña, and ranchera performers Sundays, June 29, July 13 and July 27 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Levings Park.
