South Beloit school bus driver charged with sexual abuse

Online Staff Report

The area school bus driver at the center of sexual abuse investigation has been charged with multiple sex crimes, Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced Tuesday, June 10.

Peter Sanchez, 68, has been charged with five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The charges stem from reports that Sanchez made inappropriate contact with at least two 5-year-old victims this spring.

Bruscato’s office says the contact occurred in April and May, while Sanchez worked as a school bus driver for the Prairie Hill School District, in South Beloit, Ill.

Sanchez was arrested Monday, June 9, by the Puerto Rico Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force, following a June 4 indictment by the Winnebago County Grand Jury. Local authorities say they are working with authorities in Puerto Rico to have Sanchez returned to Winnebago County.

Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 felony, punishable by probation or three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The justice system is a live and well. They got him. Now these little girls, I believe 5y/o can rest. They have found this guy. Everyone can now continue knowing their children are safe and can continue to load then on a bus for an opportunity at a enlightening education. Meanwhile, I’m homeschooling my own.
