Bonzi Productions stages ‘Annie Warbucks’ June 20-22
Online Staff Report
So, what happened after Daddy Warbucks adopted Annie? Did everyone live happily ever after? Find out when Bonzi Productions, a community theater company, puts on the musical Annie Warbucks June 20-22 at Rockford Lutheran Performing Arts Centre, 3411 N. Alpine Road, Rockford. It is the show’s premiere production in Rockford.
“We picked this show because it’s actually a great sequel and starts right where Annie left off,” said Technical Director and actor playing Daddy Warbucks, Todd Bonzi. “The story is great, the music is beautiful, and it’s never been done in Rockford before, so we’re excited to bring it here!”
There are many sibling and parent/child combinations of actors in the show, plus the Bonzis’ daughter, Sam Bonzi, is performing. Sam is a graduating high school senior and has been doing theater with her family since age 2.
“Todd used to carry her on his back with a pacifier in her mouth when we first introduced her to musical theater,” said Director Michele Bonzi. “She auditioned for the Voice and made it to the second round, she was one of 12 finalists in Illinois for the Broadway in Chicago high school musical competition, and she will attend Western Illinois University in the fall, majoring in musical theater. I guess it runs in the family.”
Michele Bonzi teaches drama classes and directs shows at Rockford Lutheran High School.
Annie Warbucks performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 20; 2 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 21; and 2 p.m., Sunday, June 22. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and younger and seniors.
