The Emmy Award-winning TV restaurant review show Check, Please! will air a special titled “Touring Illinois” at 8 p.m., Friday, June 20, on WTTW Channel 11. The special program features five restaurants in the state of Illinois, including local farm-to-table restaurant Social in downtown Rockford. The episode will be available online at checkplease.wttw.com/video.
The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (RACVB) partnered with the Illinois Office of Tourism to arrange Rockford’s inclusion in the special-edition show. Chicago Public Television/WTTW’s film crew visited the following area locations in May: Social, Anderson Japanese Gardens, Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens, Sinnissippi Recreation Path, Rockford Brewing Company, Sinnissippi Golf Course, Coronado Performing Arts Center and JR Kortman Center for Design.
“It’s an honor for Rockford to be featured in the upcoming Check, Please! special episode ‘Touring Illinois’,” said RACVB President/CEO John Groh. “Dr. Bob Thukral did an excellent job hosting tours of his favorite places. I’m truly grateful to everyone who worked to showcase our great local treasures, and am looking forward to watching the show and the exposure it generates for Rockford and Social.”
Social Urban Bar & Restaurant, 509 E. State St., is owned by chef Paul Sletten. The restaurant can be reached at (815) 708-0877 or online at http://www.social509.com/.
