UPDATE: Teen dead in early morning shooting

The victim in this morning’s fatal shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Joshua Williams.

Winnebago County Deputy Coroner William Hintz said Williams suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m.

Williams was with others at 1116 Deanna Drive when the gun went off, Hintz said.

One man was taken into custody after the shooting. It is not known if he’s been charged with a crime.

Sheriff’s deputies have also not announced whether Williams’ death has been classified as a homicide.

One man is dead and another in custody after an early morning shooting Tuesday, June 24.

Winnebago County Sheriff Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said deputies learned of the shooting at 1:36 a.m., when they were called to 1116 DeAnna Drive, north of Machesney Park.

Upon arrival, deputies located a 19-year-old male shot dead. The victim did not live in the residence, police said. However, a short time after deputies arrived, a male returned to the scene and was taken into custody.

As of this writing, it is not known if the man in custody is considered a suspect, or whether the case is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim’s name has not been released by police. Winnebago County Sheriff’s detectives are continuing the investigation. No charges have been filed as of this report.
