RVC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter honored
Rock Valley College’s (RVC) Omicron Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was honored recently at the annual regional convention in Elgin, Ill. The chapter won a College Project Award for its work promoting college completion and an Honors in Action Project Award for its examination of the Honors Study Topic, “The Culture of Competition.” Specifically, Omicron Eta examined the “dumb jock stereotype,” its effects on student-athletes, and ways to overcome it. Omicron Eta also won an Outstanding Chapter Award and was recognized as a Five Star chapter. Additionally, Icle Freeland and Angelica Cagle received Hall of Honor Officer Awards, and Jordan Winn received both a Hall of Honor Membership Award and the Spirit Award.
The 2013-2014 Omicron Eta officers were Freeland (president), Jose Lopez (vice president of scholarship), Cagle (vice president of leadership), Ashley Edwards (vice president of service), Grant Panzella (vice president of fellowship), Kevin Wethington (public relations officer), Jasmine Grayned (recording officer — fall semester), Autumn Crow (recording officer — spring semester), and Gray Bauman (treasurer). Tim Spielman serves as the chapter adviser.
