U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., recently congratulated Chief Petty Officer Jeremy Crandall, originally of Loves Park, Illinois, on his selection as the Military Times Service Member of the Year for the U.S. Navy.

It was a privilege to meet CPO Crandall and congratulate him in person today,” Bustos said. “He has served bravely and honorably, representing the very best of the United States Armed Forces, and is very much deserving of this recognition.”

Crandall, 33, grew up in Loves Park and is stationed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is based in Newport News, Virginia. He has served in the Navy for 16 years and works collecting intelligence in a classified position as the chief cryptologic technician for the Navy. He is being recognized, in part, for creating a classroom training program for sailors that covers everything from financial management and drug and alcohol awareness to naval history and professional appearance.
