Pec Playhouse Theatre offers improv workshop, starting Aug. 10

Staff Report

PECATONICA, Illinois — Pec Playhouse Theatre (PPT), 314 Main St., Pecatonica, Illinois, will host a highly interactive, long-form improvisational workshop for ages 18 and older during August and September.

The workshops will be led by Jennifer Thompson, who trained at ImprovOlympic under the brilliance of Charna Halpern, Del Close, Neil Flynn and Adam McKay. While there, she was a part of several teams and served as a production coordinator for the acclaimed house team, The Family. Thompson has performed in theaters across the stateline.

Improvisational skills are vital to any performer, and you don’t have to be funny to participate. Believe it or not, improv does not stress being funny. Improv hones your listening and reacting skills, as well as your creative thinking skills. No matter your theatrical role, the ability to improv is a great skill to add to your theatrical bag of tricks. Also, this is a great way to prepare for PPT’s annual murder mystery dinner.

Reservations for the improv workshop can be made by calling (815) 621-4507, e-mailing or visiting Cost is $20. Sessions run Sundays, Aug. 10, 17 and 24 and Sept. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. The workshop series will conclude with a performance showcase Sept. 7.
