Traditional kimono topic of lecture at Anderson Gardens
• ‘The Beauty of Kimono’ to be presented Thursday, Aug. 21
Rockford’s Anderson Japanese Gardens welcomes David Mungenast for a lecture, “The Beauty of Kimono,” Thursday, Aug. 21.
Mungenast is a student of Kimiko Gunji, associate professor emeritus and the former director of Japan House at the University of Illinois, and is presenting on her behalf. Mungenast will present about traditional kimono, its history and will demonstrate kimono dressing. Formal and casual kimono will be discussed, including furisode, obi, kurotomesode and yukata styles. The discussion starts at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Japanese Gardens Visitor Center.
Lectures are free to Anderson Japanese Garden members and $5 for non-members. Reservations are requested and can be made by contacting Sara Henderson at (815) 316-3307 or email@example.com.
