The Rockford Fire Department has received a $247,710 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Program (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
“This generous grant from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program will certainly improve the safety of our personnel, facilities and equipment as we work to keep the community safe,” said Rockford Fire Chief Derek Bergsten.
The grant will be used to place fire sprinkler systems in the following four fire stations:
• Station 4 (2959 Shaw Woods Drive);
• Station 6 (3329 W. State St.);
• Station 9 (2416 Halsted Road); and
• Station 11 (2117 Calgary Court).
According to FEMA: “The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.”
