City Market begins fall hours of 3-7 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 5

Now that Labor Day has passed, Rockford City Market will now be open from 3 to 7 p.m., Fridays, to adjust to the changing daylight hours.

Guests are encouraged to visit City Market during market hours, and stay downtown afterward to enjoy the other many activities going on in the area for First Fridays. The fall hours begin this Friday, Sept .5.

What to expect at City Market this Friday

Music — Vince Chiarelli (performing from 4 to 7 p.m.) and his group will be performing authentic Italian and Sicilian music and other classic standards, lounge music, and other popular hits from artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tom Jones and many more.

Activities — Once Upon a Dream Performance; Rockford Christian Key Club (face painting); Rockford Etsy Booth — Lucky Penny Collective (three different Etsy shops together): Robayre (paintings, stationary, jewelry, etc.), A Beautiful Party (homemade creations, decorations, vintage items), and Larking (cards, jewelry, pendants, etc. all made from vintage books and paper).

Gates — Northern Illinois Food Bank

Demonstrations — Namaste Studios will perform 20-minute Qigong interactive demonstrations at 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 p.m. at the lower Millennium Fountain.

RHS Provider — Visit the Rockford Health System booth on Market Street and talk with staff and providers from the Heart & Vascular Center. They’ll have tips and information about a variety of ways to stay heart healthy. You’ll learn warning signs and symptoms of heart attacks; test your knowledge of cardiovascular; get the latest in AED information; and find out more about the “radial approach” in cardiac catheterization.

Rockford City Market takes place every Friday from May 30 through Oct. 17 along Water Street between State and Jefferson streets in downtown Rockford. It runs from 3 to 8 p.m. before Labor Day and 3 to 7 p.m. after Labor Day. The market includes local growers and vendors who sell natural products, including vegetables, fruit, meat, cheeses, flowers, herbs, baked goods, wine and healthy snacks, as well as artisans and vendors with unique offerings and live entertainment by a variety of performers.

Rockford City Market is a collaborative effort of several agencies, including the Rock River Development Partnership, Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the City of Rockford.
