John Gile, Tom Heflin collaborate at the ‘Word of Art Exhibition’ Sept. 5
Twenty-five years ago, John Gile and Tom Heflin collaborated as author and illustrator on the children’s book The First Forest. In September, they will be together again, this time as esteemed judges at the Word of Art Exhibition and Book Release Reception, which will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, in the Celebration Room of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 Third Ave., Rockford. In Print, a professional writer’s organization, in cooperation with the Center for Arts and Spirituality and Art@Emmanuel, is sponsoring the event.
Word of Art is an exceptional collaboration of authors and artists from Illinois and Wisconsin. More than 50 authors submitted more than 100 stories, essays and poems. Artists then selected 30 of those submissions to create an inspired canvas using the medium of their choice. The words and artwork will be published in a hardcover, full-color book.
Lovers of art and the written word, as well as the general public, are invited to attend the reception to meet the authors and artists, see their original work on display, listen while authors read their words, and purchase a book for their library ($15 for In Print members, $20 for non-members). Attendees will also have an opportunity to vote on the Best in Show for word/artwork collaboration. Appetizers, desserts, coffee, water and lemonade will be served.
