Online Staff Report

Winnebago County Treasurer Susan Goral’s office will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, to receive second installment payments of real estate property taxes, due that date.

Although the Treasurer’s office will be open until 7 p.m., the Treasurer encourages taxpayers to mail their payments on or before the Sept. 5 due date (postmarks are accepted), or to utilize any of the participating local banks or credit unions to pay their taxes.

You can also go to the website to pay online, by check or credit card (Master Card, American Express, Discover or VISA), or you can pay by credit card by calling Payments at 1-855-385-1175. A 2.35 percent convenience fee will be charged by Payments when you pay by credit card. You may also pay through Payments by VISA debit card for a $2.95 fee. There is no fee to pay by online check through the Riverside Bank link on the Treasurer’s website.

First installments that have not been paid currently have a 4.5 percent penalty and will have a penalty of 6 percent added after Sept. 13. Second installments that have not been paid by the Sept. 5 due date will incur a penalty of 1.5 percent a month, beginning Sept. 6. Late payments cannot be made at local banks or credit unions. Taxpayers should call the Treasurer’s office at (815) 419-4400 for correct amount due prior to mailing late payments.

Publication of delinquent taxes will be the week of Sept. 29, and Certified Notices will be mailed Oct. 3 informing taxpayers of the Tax Sale to be held Oct. 27 and 28, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. The last day to pay taxes for the current year is Oct. 24, 2014.

If you did not receive a tax bill this year, and you have not changed your address at the Treasurer’s office, call (815) 419-4400 to make arrangements to have a form mailed to you, or go to the Treasurer’s website at and print out a change form. Changing your address at the post office will NOT change your mailing address for tax bills.
