County approves ‘Project Strange Duck’

The measure introduced to the Winnebago County Board as “Project Strange Duck” was approved Thursday, Sept. 4, making way for a county gift to renovate an aging parking lot.

According to terms of “Project Strange Duck,” the county plans to give First Rockford Group $150,000 to repair the parking lot of the old K’s Merchandise, at Mulford Road and East State Street.

The board voted for the plan, calling it “infrastructure improvement,” because First Rockford Group has promised to turn the former retail building into a call center and bring 500 jobs to the county. The building has been vacant since 2007, when K’s Merchandise closed all 17 of its stores.

The Rock River Times will have more on this story as it develops.

Sunil Puri is the bane of Rockford. We do NOT need another call center. These call centers are ALL minimum pay jobs………this doesn’t help our economy one iota. Mr. Puri is becoming a member of the 1%, while making sure Rockfordians have nothing but minimum wage jobs brought to our city. WHY do Rockfordians sit back and allow our city government and their association with Puri continue? I am sick of the corruption in my city. As soon as I retire, I am out of Rockford. Found BEAUTIFUL Nashville as my future home! Another taxpayer that is leaving Rockford!!

This is beyond ridiculous. We’ve public infrastructure all over the countythats crumbling and yet we give Mr. Potter $$$ to improve his property. No wonder he’s the richest man in town. He’s suckered the politicians into shoving cash into his pockets.

Why not start the call center up, FIRST, then redo the parking lot? Seems like a lot of Rockford people are prone to putting the cart before the horse.
