The Winnebago County Republican Central Committee (WCRCC) will host a Constitution Day program Saturday, Sept. 20, at Stockholm Inn, 2420 Charles St., Rockford.
Sept. 17, 1787, was the date the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution, and the event celebrates the continued importance of that document to all citizens of our nation.
This year’s featured speaker, Robert Evans, is well known in the Rockford area. Professor Evans has been a staple at Rockford College (now University) for more than 35 years. He is the chairman of the Department of Economics, Business and Accounting, and teaches in the fields of both political science and economics and business.
Evans’ presentation, titled “Politics Today Petty Partisanship or Continuing Constitutional Debate,” and he will conclude with a discussion session.
In addition to Evans, attendees will hear comments regarding the Constitution from two other Winnebago County residents: Kevin Kjellstrom of Morgan Stanley and Matt Miller, morning radio show host.
This is the third year this nonpartisan program will be held, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m., breakfast beginning at 9 a.m. and the program beginning thereafter.
Tickets for the program are $25, which includes choice of a selected breakfast and beverage. Tickets may be purchased by mail (payable to WCRCC at 515 N. Court, Rockford, IL 61103) or on the “Events” page of the party website, www.wcrcc.com. Seating is limited — while tickets may be purchased at the door, reservations by the website are recommended.
