Ride the Track Tralley at Rockford City Market – Rockford Park District’s Trolley Car #36 operates during downtown City Market on Water St., Fridays, May 30-Oct. 2014 from 3-8 p.m. after Labor Day, rides will operate from 3-7 p.m. Trolley will pick up and drop off passengers at the Market Street entrance to City Market and at the Trolley Station next to Riverview Ice House, 324 N. Pints for Prostates” at Olympic Tavern – The Olympic Tavern, 2327 N. Main St., is marking Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by promoting prostae cancer awaqreness and raising funds for the national “Pints for Prostates” campaign thru September. During the month, patrons can buy any Bell’s beer on tap, and the Olympic will donate 50 cents to Pints for Prostates cancer charity. Bell’s Brewery will match the donation. The Olympic will also host a Screw City Beer Fest pre-party Sept. 5 and give away the last two SCBF VIP tickets in existence. Volunteer Opportunities at Carpenter’s Place – Donation pick-up at Starbucks: Volunteer is responsible for picking up donations of pastries at approx. 8 a.m. every Monday at Starbucks on Bell School Road and Starbucks at Forest Plaza on East State St. Volunteer then delives the donation to Carpenter’s Place. Volunteers are also responsible for returning the bins to Starbucks for the next donation. One volunteer is adequate, so a “team” could be organized to rotate the pickup. Montessori Students help build school in Kenya – Students at Maria Montessori School and Thurgood Marshall School are working with international charity partner Free the Children to build a school in Kenya. So far, they have raised nearly $13,000 to dig a well in South Sudan, plus continued service work. They plan to raise $10,000 to build a girls’ school in Kenya with a fund-raising program, “Brick by Brick.” They’re selling bricks for $20 and hope to sell 500. STOMP Out Bullying and Blue Shirt Day World Day of Bullying Prevention – Bergner’s supports the “STOMP Out Bullying” back-to-school campaign running Aug. 1-Oct. 31.
