Homicide victim identified

The victim of the deadly shooting on Javelin Drive over the weekend has been identified as Justice Blake, 41, of Rockford.

Blake was shot several times at around 1 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 14, in front of a duplex occupied by his cousin, who called 911. Blake died in surgery at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center at 3:42 a.m., Sunday.

Police interviewed Blake before he died, but Blake did not not know who shot him. Police have not identified a suspect in the case.

Sunday’s homicide is Rockford’s 12th of the year, and the first since 27-year-old Ramone E. Bowen was gunned down. Bowen was killed in the 4800 block of Javelin Drive July 31. A 32-year-old Rockford man has been charged with murder in that case.
