Still no suspects in weekend homicide

Staff Report

Police have not identified a suspect in a deadly shooting that shattered the silence of an otherwise peaceful east-side neighborhood over the weekend.

A 41-year-old man was shot multiple times outside a duplex in the 4700 block of Javelin Drive at around 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. He was transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, where he died surgery at 3:42 a.m. Police spoke to the victim before he died, but the man did not not know who shot him.

Officers also learned that the victim did not live in the duplex. The residence is the home of the man’s cousin, who heard the shots and called 911.

Sunday’s homicide is Rockford’s 12th of the year, and the first since July 31, when 27-year-old Ramone E. Bowen was gunned down. Bowen was killed in the 4800 block of Javelin Drive. A 32-year-old Rockford man has been charged with murder in that case.

Anyone with any information about Sunday’s shooting is encouraged to contact the Rockford Police Department at (815) 987-5824 or Crime Stoppers at (815) 963-7867.
