Rockford Park District’s Carlson Ice Arena is offering new figure skating classes this fall and winter, including the following:
• Cheer on Ice — A session of 30-minute classes held Tuesday early evenings for ages 5-16 to combine skating skills with cheerleading and poms to learn cheers and skating skills at the same time, while gaining the benefits of fun exercise. Students may have the opportunity to perform at the Ice Arena’s in-house Jr. IceHogs hockey games during the season. The next six-week sessions begin Sept. 23 and Nov. 4; the fee is $45 ($50 non-resident).
• Synchronized Skating — These 45-minute Saturday morning classes introduce skaters ages 4 and older to synchronized skating’s fundamental skills and teamwork, which become the building blocks for future success in this growing sport. Skaters have opportunities to perform in the Park District’s winter and spring ice shows. The next six-week sessions begin Sept. 27 and Nov. 8; the fee is $45 ($50 non-resident).
Registration is under way for skating programs, and will continue until capacity is reached. Fee assistance and an installment payment plan may be available to those meeting program qualifications.
