UPDATED: 10:50 a.m.

Staff Report

Police are searching for a man they say robbed the CVS Pharmacy, at 8001 N. Second St., in Machesney Park, Thursday morning.

According to reports, a man armed with a hunting rifle entered the store this morning and demanded money from clerks and took items from the pharmacy portion of the store. He then slipped through an exit and is believed to have fled on foot. A vehicle was also seen speeding away from the area, but it is not known if the suspect was inside.

Police surrounded the building  and are currently looking for the suspect. The Donald C. Parker Early Education Center, a school two blocks east of the scene, was placed on soft lockdown while the area was searched. The lockdown, as those at Marquette Elementary and Machesney Park Elementary schools have since been lifted. Students will not go outside for recess until further notice, school officials said. Officers will be at the schools today.

All CVS employees were evacuated from the building by the time police arrived. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a white male between 40 and 50 years old. He was wearing a ski mask.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Loves Park Police or dial 911.

I hope they have cameras somewhere outside showing this guy putting his ski mask on. I would love to see cameras EVERYWHERE like in Britain. They usually have a criminal on camera no matter where he comes from……US should follow suit. It DOES deter crime AND criminals are easily apprehended and convicted when on camera!!
