Lucha Cantina takes aim at childhood hunger

Staff Report

More than 16 million American children face hunger. This September, Lucha Cantina, 1641 N. Alpine Road, Rockford, is joining thousands of restaurants nationwide to support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign by raising funds in their restaurants to fight childhood hunger. Lucha’s guests will be given the opportunity to make a $5 donation in exchange for a $10 off of $30 coupon redeemable in September or October.

Since our opening in August of 2013, Lucha has tried to not only be a business in Rockford, but a business that helps make Rockford better,” said owner Josh Binning. “It is a natural fit for a restaurant to participate in the No Kid Hungry campaign. To think that one in five kids in our community struggles with hunger is something that just can’t be ignored. We want to help change that number, so we have increased the value of our coupon to encourage participation in this important campaign.”

In 2013, nearly 9,000 restaurants raised $7.5 million for the No Kid Hungry campaign. No Kid Hungry funds are used to raise awareness about child hunger in the U.S., create public-private partnerships that align kids with the resources they need, support nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals, and educate kids and their families about how to cook healthy meals with limited resources.
