20-year sentence in 2013 homicide

Online Staff Report

A Rockford man will spend the next 20 years in prison for a 2013 homicide, Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Tronte Pickett, 20, was sentenced by Judge Rosemary Collins after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in July.

Pickett’s sentence stems from a September 2013 shooting death of Jordan Bounsinh at a Rockford Mobil gas station.

When police arrived, they found several spent 9mm shell casings at the scene. A friend transported Bounsinh to SwedishAmerican Hospital, where he died. Witnesses identified Pickett as the shooter.

Second-degree murder is a Class 1 felony, punishable by 4-20 years in prison.
