Starting Oct. 7, Comics of Steel, Rockford’s only weekly stand-up comedy showcase, will be moving its start time back to 9 p.m. Comics of Steel, which began its run at Rockford’s Kryptonite Bar (308 W. State St.) back in November 2013, is a comedy showcase dedicated to bringing the best stand-up comedy from all over the Midwest to Rockford. Tickets are $5 (with all money going toward the performers) and doors open at 8 p.m.
Comics of Steel has announced its October line-ups (as follow):
• Oct. 7, Eric Younglove (Comics of Steel producer, Dead End Comedy producer) hosts Bobby Hill (co-founder of the “Two And A Half Black Men” showcase and tour), Jason Hillman (founder of Milwaukee’s “Caste of Killers” comedy showcases) and headliner Peter-John Byrnes (host of “This Week In Despair” podcast, Just For Laughs Chicago, Limestone Comedy Festival, Out of Bounds Comedy Festival).
• Oct. 14, Comics of Steel showcases Mike Lebovitz (New Faces Showcase, Montreal Comedy Festival) as he performs a preview of his album, Pure Garbage (which he will record in Chicago on Oct. 24-25). Matt Drufke (Comics of Steel producer) hosts and Reena Calm (Hoo Ha Comedy co-producer) features.
• Oct. 21, Jack Baker (Comics of Steel producer, house emcee at The Comedy Shrine in Aurora) will host Marlena Rodruigez (Second City, named in afterellen.com’s “Fifty Hot Women In Comedy”) and headliner Ricky Gonzales (The Lincoln Lodge).
• Oct. 28, Comics of Steel hosts its monthly open mic, which allows anyone the chance to perform. The open mic is free.
Comics of Steel is a collaboration between Rockford’s Fats Productions, Kryptonite Bar and Three-Prong Comedy. The show is produced by comedians Matt Drufke, Jack Baker, Eric Younglove and Rockford producer Jared Corey, and is committed to bringing the top comedians from Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, and the surrounding area to Rockford.
