Locktoberfest begins Oct. 4

Locktoberfest at Lockwood Park, 5201 Safford Road, Rockford, has something to get your entire family in the spirit of the season! Locktoberfest begins Oct. 4, and continues every Saturday and Sunday in October from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Locktoberfest will also be open when school is out on Columbus Day Monday, Oct. 13, with added special activities on that day only.

Lockwood Park, a Rockford Park District facility, provides a country-type experience just minutes from downtown Rockford. Locktoberfest will have a variety of free or low-fee activities and entertainment for kids and adults to enjoy. Admission to Lockwood Park is free, with some paid activities.

Locktoberfest 2014 schedule — different theme each weekend!

Every weekend in October, enjoy the following: Carnival rides by Skinner Amusement; pumpkin-themed games and activities; storytime hayrides; face painting; corn maze; pony ring rides; scavenger hunt — win a free gift; seasonal food favorites; and pick your pumpkin for $5.

Themed weekends are as follow:

• Oct. 4-5, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Apple Days — Apple crafts and food, trail rides (11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday)

• Oct. 11-13, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Pumpkin Patch Days — Seasonal food favorites, trail rides (11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday), and additional special activities for Columbus Day, Oct. 13 only.

• Oct. 18-19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Scarecrow Days — Build a scarecrow, trail rides (11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday).

• Oct. 25-26, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Costume Party Days — Oct. 25: Q98.5 Candy and Scavenger Hunt Day (10 a.m.-3 p.m.); and trail rides (11 a.m.-3 p.m.). Oct. 26: Savenger Hunt, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and trail rides (11 a.m.-3 p.m.).
