Of the 6 to 8 million cats and dogs entering shelters each year, approximately half are euthanized. October is National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, and Lou Bachrodt and First Northern Credit Union are working with several local animal rescue groups and organizations to bring families and friends together through the adoption of loving companions.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, Lou Bachrodt and First Northern Credit Union will host the annual Pet-a-Palooza event and other animal activities at Lou Bachrodt Auto Mall, 7070 Cherryvale N. Blvd.
The event is free, open to the public, and it will feature local pet adoption organizations, pet training centers, pet lodging services, pet nutrition programs, pet grooming services, raffles and more. Organizations on site will be giving out information in addition to special offers for pet services.
Many rescue groups and animal service organizations will be present at the event. All proceeds will be distributed to the participating rescue organizations. Get a nail trimming by Rockford Career College Vet Tech students for a $5 donation.
Kibble Korner will be accepting donations of unopened dog/cat food and cat litter. Visit with more than 35 vendors, such as Good Shepherd Animal Sanctuary, Canine Crunchery, Stonebridge Kennels, PAWS Humane Society, Bertell Farms, Dog Paddle Beach, Noodles & Co., Mending Hearts Rescue, Cherry Valley Feed, Stateline Dog Watch, As Good as Gold Rescue, Animal Friends Society of Boone County and others.
If you are interested in adopting a pet, limited adoptions may take place with select groups. Interested individuals can pre-apply and undergo a background check prior to the event by contacting the desired group. Not all organizations will take pre-applications.
